Accreditation FAQs

What is accreditation?

Accreditation is a means of identifying a positive point of difference between REINZ members and non-members by supporting members to market their professional reputation and specialist skills to the wider community - Auctioneering, Business Broking, Commercial & Industrial Sales or Property Management, Residential Sales or Property Management, or Rural Sales.

Why get accredited?

The simple answer is to give you a competitive edge. Once accredited, you will be able to promote your accredited status and show your clients that you are a specialist in your particular field.

What are the industry benefits in having an accreditation programme?

There are a number of benefits for the real estate industry in having an accreditation programme:

  • members are able to undertake structured learning relevant to their area of specialisation on a regular basis;
  • recognition is provided to those professionals who want to specialise;
  • supports best practice;
  • specialist knowledge and business skills are maintained within the industry;
  • the general public can identify a point of difference between accredited and non-accredited real estate practitioners.

What criteria do I have to meet?

The following five criteria are required for accreditation:

  1. Licensing: Hold a current Licence or Certificate of Approval as a Salesperson or Branch Manager.
  2. Education: Have completed a specialty strand in the National Certificate in Real Estate for one of the following: Business Broking; Commercial & Industrial Sales or Property Management; Residential Sales or Property Management; or Rural Sales. Auctioneering does not have a specialty strand so auction specialists will need to provide video evidence of two auctions called within the previous two years.
  3. CPD: Continuing Professional Development - 12 points every two years.
    Points are made up of:
    - a minimum of 6 points from REINZ seminars or REINZ ITO on-the-job training for national qualifications. Compulsory topics are documentation, ethics, and compliance.
    - remaining 6 points from pre-approved structured in-house or company training which is assessment based; or by attending pre-approved conference sessions, including REINZ conferences; or other approved international seminars (REI, Australia, or NAR, US).
    - Auctioneers will need to provide video evidence of two auctions called within the previous two years. These will be worth 2 points and judged on current Australasian Auctioneer Championship Rules.

  4. Membership: Hold membership of REINZ Affiliate, Associate, or Fellow.
  5. Experience: Two years' practical experience in the relevant field prior to application.

I completed my exams at Massey University, do I have to complete the specialty strand?

Yes. You can do this through on job training. Download an enrolment form, complete and return it to REINZ ITO.

Alternatively, you may choose to complete your study with TOPNZ. Contact the course provider for more information.

How can I show that I am accredited?

Once accreditation is granted, you will be awarded an Accreditation Certificate. You will also be entitled to quote your accreditation status on your business cards, letterhead, and in communications with clients to promote your particular specialty.

How long does accreditation last?

Providing all criteria can still be met, accreditation is renewable every two years upon receipt of your CPD requirements for the previous 24 months.
