Auctioneering Course

To become an Auctioneer, we recommend that you complete the REINZ three day Auction course presented by experienced auctioneer and trainer John Abbott.

The course runs over three days at a cost of $1,000.00 + GST.
There will be a maximum of 12 participants in the class.
A video is taken of each participant throughout the course.

Auction Management for Salespeople

REINZ has recently introduced a new seminar - Auction Management for Salespeople - which is for salespeople who sell by Auction.

This is a three hour seminar presented by John Abbott which is free to REINZ Members, and $25 to non-members.

Applying for an Auctioneers Licence

To apply for an Auctioneer’s licence, you should go to your nearest District Court and request an application for an Auctioneers licence.

You will also require:

  • testimonials (character references)
  • statement of financial situation of the applicant or company
  • filing fee of $300
  • fidelity bond of not less than $1,000 per person (this can be arranged through The Real Estate Institute of NZ. Ph: 09 356 1755)
  • to be advertised twice in Public Notices - one week apart
  • a Certificate of Incorporation in the case of a company.

Provided you meet the criteria outlined, you can obtain an Auctioneers licence. The stages, as set out in the application form, must be strictly adhered to, particularly where copies of the advertising must be submitted for approval, prior to actually placing the advertising in the media.

Named Persons: A fee of $130.00 for each additional named person will apply.

Individual licences must not trade under a limited liability name.

Licences must be renewed every year and continue in force until 31 March of the following year.
